Very Inspiring Blogger…
Stop Press: I have been nominated for, the Very Inspiring Blogger Award, by J.P. Lane. http://jplanewrites.blogspot.co.uk/
I am delighted to accept of course – so, thank you Joan, so glad you enjoy this blog and find it inspiring. Joan’s blog explores the history and foibles of fashion and I urge you to visit.
All I need to do now, according to the rules, is to tell you 7 things about myself. Since my blog tends to tell you everything you need to know about me, this could be tricky and I know I have told you seven things before. However, never fear, there are always more!
In the spirit of the award here are 7 more things you may or may not have known about me until now:
- Our third grandson was born on 4th February this year. Elliott George Dennis is gorgeous of course. Here he is with big brother William.
- Our fourth grandchild is due in August – Wow! We are so lucky ;-))
- I have spent the past year sorting out the care and welfare of my 30-year-old nephew who has Asperger’s, following the deaths of both my sister and brother-in-law. This has provided both of us with high doses of sadness and hilarity by turn. My husband and I are now well versed in the ways of Social Services and the Care System and also manage a Trust set up by my sister for the beneficiaries. Thank goodness we have both run companies before—administration is everything.
- I recently had “The boy in the cowboy hat”, published in Memoir Journal. It is a personal memoir about my younger brother who died of AIDS in 1993. I disagreed with the Editor’s substitution of a particular word but they published anyway. C’est la vie!
- I like eating ginger biscuits with a cup of tea as a treat.
- I love Eddie Izzard – his humour is right down my street and I enjoyed the recent, ”Meet the Izzards” as he followed the progress of his and our ancestors, across the globe, courtesy of DNA.
- I hate the question….“So, what are you doing these days?” (you knew that though from my last post but I just had to add it)
Other than that, all there is for me to do, is to nominate my own, favourite, inspiring bloggers. Had I more time the list would be longer but, as it is, here are my two nominations which carry no caveats other than that nominees accept and pass on if they can.
My nominees are:
Catbird Scout for outstanding writing and beautiful descriptions second to none. Deb has a way with words.
Andrea Carlisle Andrea will capture your imagination with her tales from her family’s Prairie past and you’ll be moved to laughter and tears with her wonderful account of life at ‘The Place”—the residence of her elderly mother.
I shall now dust down the plaque that comes with the award and hang it on the wall to the right.
Thank you again Joan! 🙂

Wow lucky you and I think the choice was perfect – now to go and check out your links to your nominated bloggers. That is another fun part of this award, finding the new 🙂
Deborah Barker
I hope you enjoyed the links Patricia 🙂
Teresa

Congratulations Deborah. Truly well deserved. You have been VERY INSPIRING for me and clearly so many others. Your blog posts are cleaner and fresher than fabric conditioner and so good for the soul.
Deborah Barker
Why, thank you John, such kind words! “Fresher than fabric conditioner?” Well, that’s a new one LOL! 😉

Hi Deborah .. yes congratulations and the things you’ve listed give us an insight into the comings and goings of life … we just never know where it will lead us. Thank goodness for you – your nephew is lucky … though I’m sure sadly he doesn’t really realise – but we can ‘see’ …
You’ve always got lots going on … I loved the Izzard programmes – and I’m going to write about it – it’ll (they) will be up in the next couple of weeks .. before the A-Z starts …
Those grandchildren will give you so much pleasure and happiness – I love the caring way he’s looking at that new sprog in his life!! Elliott and William … good names ..
Here’s to a happy Spring (when it arrives!) .. bright sunshine today thankfully … cheers Hilary
Deborah Barker
Hi Hilary, I will be checking out your post on the Izzards. Yes, always lots going on round here – the sunshine was lovely but more rain than sun today alas. Still, Spring is on the way! 🙂

I got one, too, but I have no idea how to make it go to my blog page. If I did, I would post it.
Deborah Barker
Hope you have someone to help you get that award up there – shame to waste it. Congratulations on being given it in the meantime! 🙂

It was a pleasure to hand the Inspiring Blog baton to you, Deborah. Love your blog. Congratulations on “The boy in the cowboy hat”! Great news. Reading 7 things about you, notice we share a liking for ginger biscuits with a cup of tea 🙂
Deborah Barker
Ah, ginger biscuits with tea are the best Joan! Glad to hear you appreciate them too 😉
Wendy Clarke
Hi Deborah – have just popped over to see you from your blog after you left me a comment. Congratulations on the award and I look forward to reading more of your posts.
Deborah Barker
Thank you Wendy, so glad you came over. 🙂
Andrea Carlisle
Congratulations, Deborah! You’re getting out there more and more and collecting quite a few awards, I see. I want to thank you for nominating me. I have no idea what to do. How do I get the little plaque thingie on my blog? I get writing the 7 things part, but you know what a technodope I am. Or maybe you don’t. Maybe that’s what I’ll use to kick off the 7 things.
Deborah Barker
Hi Andrea, thank you. If you click and copy the image of the award from my blog and save it to your PC/MAC you can then upload it to the blog in the same way you add photographs. With WordPress, I use a widget to add the image to the side bar which also lets me add a link so it will always link back to the article it refers to. I sense I am already confusing you. I can email you the image if it helps? 🙂
Andrea Carlisle
I will try it, Deborah. If stuck somewhere, I’ll call across the pond for help (via email, that is). Thank you!

What a lovely surprise after being away from blogland for a while to find this recognition from you. Thank you for your kind words. More than that, though, I’m happy reading your stories again.
