Garden capers, dried sausage and deer
While I was pottering in the garden this morning, a family of Deer ran across the lawn in the garden that backs onto our own. Flossie went mad of course, barking and jumping at the railings. I didn’t take much notice apart from making a weak attempt at telling her to be quiet. I was far too busy picking up chewed up flowerpots and the mangled remains of footballs not to mention the stuffing from Charlie’s favourite stuffed toy that was strewn from one end of the garden to the other. I didn’t become concerned until Charlie came running back up the garden, alone. I scanned the horizon and was…

A Step too Far
The trials and tribulations of Charlie Brown… The world is a strange and scary place for a pup sometimes. Charlie Brown is almost 6 months old … “a big dog in a small body” to paraphrase those who know the breed well. In the house, he is indeed a pocket rocket, living up to his pedigree title. As we relax after a hard day’s work, he zips from room to room, ball in mouth, only stopping to attempt to tease Flossie into playing as he passes. Sometimes she obliges. Sometimes she ignores him. Should I scold Charlie, Flossie is quick to distract him from whatever he has done to annoy…

If you go down to the woods today…
If you go down to the woods today, You are sure of a big surprise, Flossie and Doris have gone for a swim, You wont believe your eyes! Flossie here after quite a gap in posts I must say. The Boss tends to keep me away from the computer when she is writing a lot and she has been writing a lot it seems. You’d think there’d be another book or two completed by now but judging by the groans coming from her, she still has a way to go. As far as I can see she is spending a lot of time reading too. A while ago two big…

A letter from Flossie
Dear Boss, Here is my lead and here is your coat…is there a problem? I know you have been busy of late and our woodland walks have been either rather rushed or have failed to materialise at all. Don’t worry, I have taken matters into my own hands. I know you have four small grandsons, two of whom, have needed you more than ever for the past few days. I know that your days have been topsy turvey as your youngest daughter goes back to full time work and there is one crisis after another in her life. Yes, I did hear about the powercut at nursery, the three year…

The Reluctant Top Dog
Hello, Flossie here, I am very sad to report that I have lost my dear old friend Keano. Ol’ Keans, who had slowed to a virtual stop in the last few weeks, has left us. The Boss is sad, the Boss’s family is sad but they all agree, he had a very good life. Unlike other dogs we have known, he did not require an operation or drugs or round-the-clock care. He simple ate his dinner, walked into the garden and collapsed. Very tidy! (Trust Keano to make sure he ate first). The Vet confirmed his heart had given out and helped him slip away without pain. This event…

Impressing the boys
Flossie here. It’s been an exciting couple of weeks. First, little Doris (now not quite so little) came to stay for the night. Doris and I are still best pals and although she can’t run as fast as me, or corner very well, we get along like a house on fire. Alas, Doris was only here for the night. Last month, she stayed for a week and I quite thought she had moved in. Doris does get special privileges when she is here. Apparently, she is so well behaved on the lead that the little human, William, can take her for a walk! There is a video to prove it,…

Dognapping and Mischievous Mutts
Flossie here. Dog napping? Really? Yes, it seems to be the case. There have been several reported incidents of dogs being snatched from their own back gardens of late. Golden Retrievers and other pedigree mutts, appear to be the target. I have borrowed time on the Boss’s computer to talk about this terrifying subject. No one has actually bothered to mention it to me, officially, of course. Oh no, I have just had to eavesdrop on what are normally, mind-numbing conversations. I have learnt over the years that when the Boss sits down with a cup of tea in hand and there is another human nearby, they will sit and…

Flossie here!
Well, here I am, a little traumatised I might add, but here. Mind you, I very nearly wasn’t…and neither was the Boss come to that! A morning trip to the woods promised much. The sun was out but that autumnal bite to the air meant I would not be too hot. I have been amazingly well behaved on the lead of late so the Boss threw caution to the wind and allowed me to jump in the boot untethered. Old Keano curled up in the foot well behind the Boss’s seat. We drove into the car park (loosely called thus since it is not much more than a pot-holed track).…

“My Hero” by Flossie
Hi all, Flossie here. I thought it about time I put in an appearance. It would seem that the Boss has been hogging the keyboard for far too long. Not only did she disappear for a couple of weeks, leaving us to cope alone, but she has also been writing about it since she got back with nary a mention of yours truly! There have been quite a few changes round here since I last wrote. Not least is the appearance of ‘Eddie’ (new kid on the block). I haven’t met Eddie properly yet because apparently, I am too boisterous for a tiny pup. I don’t know where they get…

Meet Doris
Hi, Flossie here, I have been usurped. They told me her presence in my home was a temporary situation. I am not so sure. She was back again today. Who is she? ‘She’ is Doris, an English Bulldog Puppy. Meet Doris: Doris arrived with the little human they coo and ah over all the time. At first, she came with her own crate but she soon gave that up and, horror of horrors, is now allowed to climb into bed with Ol’ Keano. This is something I have never managed to do, even when I was a tiny pup. Keano would send me packing should I so much as put…
